UX/UI & Web Analytics
Structuring a multi-discipline school, and measuring it
Surfiing teaches surf, kitesurf and wingfoil out of Essaouira. Three disciplines, three different audiences, three different levels of intent: a curious beginner researching their first lesson has almost nothing in common with an experienced rider checking whether the wind conditions are worth the trip. A single brochure page would have flattened all of that into one generic message aimed at nobody in particular.
So the architecture came first. Each discipline got its own page, its own content and its own URL, with the homepage acting as an orientation layer that routes people rather than trying to sell everything at once. That decision is as much SEO as UX: someone searching for kitesurf lessons in Essaouira lands on the kitesurf page, matching their query, instead of a homepage they then have to navigate. Relevance at the entry point is the cheapest conversion lever there is.
The rest of the work was about lowering perceived risk, because the real barrier for a beginner is not price but embarrassment. The process section walks through six steps in deliberately plain language, including falling off the board, which is the part people are actually worried about. Social proof sits at the discipline level rather than in one anonymous block, testimonials carry names and countries, and the FAQ answers the beginner anxieties directly: whether experience is required, whether it is safe for children, what to bring. The location section grounds the school physically, which matters for a business people travel to.
Tracking went in with the build rather than after it. A GTM container was implemented during development, so the site launched already instrumented and the questions that matter could be answered from the start: which discipline actually drives contact, where visitors drop between the homepage and a discipline page, which entry points bring people who convert. Retrofitting analytics after launch means losing exactly the period when a new site is most informative. Designing the measurement alongside the pages is the same habit I bring to client work, and it is why I keep both hands on the problem instead of handing it off halfway.
